Bare wood loses to Arkansas weather

Summer sun, heavy rain and thick humidity wear down an unprotected fence. The boards turn gray, then crack, warp and grow mildew. Stain puts color and protection back before that damage sets in.

  • Sun

UV light bleaches the surface of the wood. A pigmented stain helps shield the boards from it.

  • Rain and humidity

Moisture soaks into bare wood and feeds mildew and rot. Stain helps the boards shed water instead of soaking it up.

  • Looks

A fence is the longest wall in your yard. A fresh finish makes the whole property look cared for.

  • Upkeep

Re-staining on a schedule usually costs less than replacing worn boards or whole sections.

Pick the finish you want

  • Clear or natural

Shows the wood as it is, grain and knots included. It usually gives the least sun protection, so expect to redo it sooner.

  • Semi-transparent

Adds color and still lets the grain show through. It keeps the look of real wood and is a common choice for fences.

  • Solid color

Covers the grain with an even color and hides blotches on older boards.

Fence staining questions

How much does fence staining cost?

The price depends on how much fence you have, how tall it is, what condition it is in and which finish you choose. Quotes are free. Call or text (501) 402-0196, or use the form below.

Do you wash the fence before staining it?

Yes. Stain only soaks in well on clean, dry wood, so the fence is washed first.

Can you stain over an old stain or paint?

Sometimes. A finish that is still in good shape can often be stained over, but peeling or flaking finish usually has to come off first. Send photos with your quote request and tell us what is on the fence now.

How often does a fence need to be stained again?

It depends on the wood, the finish and how much sun the fence gets. Many fences need a fresh coat every few years. Fences in full sun, and fences with clear finishes, usually wear faster than shaded fences and solid colors.

Can I stain a brand new fence right away?

New wood often holds moisture and needs time to dry out and weather before stain will soak in. How long depends on the lumber and the weather, so ask us when you request your quote.

What happens if it rains?

Wood has to be dry before it is stained, and stain needs dry weather to set. If rain is in the forecast, we may need to move your appointment.

What kinds of fences do you stain?

Stain is made for wood, so this service is for wood fences such as privacy, picket and rail fences. Not sure if yours qualifies? Send us a photo with your quote request.

Do you stain fences in my town?

We serve Little Rock, Conway and the nearby towns listed above. If you are close by and do not see your town, call or text and ask.
